World Police Band Concerts
During the first week of September of 1996, the Police Band traveled to Japan at the invitation of Mainichi Newspaper and participated in the first annual World Festival of Police Concert Bands. In addition to the New York and Tokyo Bands, Police Bands from South Korea, Australia, England, France and Spain participated in the event. The 50 members of the New York Police Band gave a series of concerts at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art and Space Museum. The Band also participated in a parade through the Tokyo Government Center, as well as Tokyo Disneyland.
In 2003 The Police Band was again invited by Mainichi Newspaper and performed at the 400th Anniversary of the EDO Government with concerts in Tokyo and Fukashima.
In 2005 The
Police
Band performed in Japan for the 10th Anniversary of the World
Police
Band Concert Series . Police Bands from Japan, South Korea,
Singapore,
China, France and Italy participated in this festival. Concerts were
performed
at the Aichi Expo 2005, Yokohama, Toyota City, Tokyo Opera House and
Chiba.
It was also the first International Tour that included The Police Band
Jazz Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble.
In 2006 The Police Band performed in Hong Kong, China. A Parade along the Harbor and Concerts in the University Center along with Police Bands from China, Tokyo, South Korea, and Paris.
In 2008 The Police Band
performed in Koriyama, Fukushima Pref. Citizen Culture Center.
Particapated in Shinjuku Artist's Culture parade and Outdoor Concert in
Mitsui Plaza. The Police Band also performed in Tokyo Shibuya Orchard
Hall along Bands from Tokyo, Beijing, Seoul and Vietnam
The New York Police Band received overwhelming acceptance with upbeat military marches, jazz, drumline and show tunes that had the very receptive audience literally dancing in their seats. The New York City Police Band couldn't have been prouder to have represented both the City of New York and the United States of a America at this international event. They are just as eager to continue the musical tradition that began nearly a century ago.
